This is why I was impressed with the company SmartKnitKIDS. They have a variety of socks that help children with Sensory Processing Disorder or even kids who don’t like the annoying seams that socks have. They even have socks for adults! There are different colors to choose from, too. (I was drawn to the pink ones.)
Here is more in depth information from their website:
“Tired of hearing her son scream “these sock seams keep bugging me,” a mom decided something needed to be done. Every “seamless” sock her son tried had seams in it; there was not a truly seamless sock available. After explaining the frustrating morning routine to countless friends of her son’s struggles with socks, she was finally given the name of Knit-Rite, a textile manufacturer, and contacted them with her request for a seamless kids sock.
After several requests for seamless socks from "desperate" parents, SmartKnitKIDS socks were created. Knit the same way a caterpillar spins its cocoon, SmartKnitKIDS socks are started at the toe and worked up toward the ankle. This process insures a 100% seamless sock, so there are no seams to bug ya! A form-fitting design also keeps those annoying lumps and bumps out of the socks.”

SmartKnitKIDS was kind enough to send me a pair of socks to review. Upon seeing the socks my son said, “They look comfortable!” He does wear regular socks but sometimes he’ll itch at his ankles and say that the seams feel like they are digging into his skin.

Tommy put the socks on and dubbed them, “cool,” which is a very big deal for a third grader with a bit of an attitude.

Bottom line? Tommy was impressed with the socks.
And guess what? SmartKnitKIDS was nice enough to send me an extra pair to give away! I have a pair of white XL socks (this is the size my son tried on too) for one lucky reader. Just go to the SmartKnitKIDS website and tell me what you would buy. (Like maybe what color sock you like.) Also leave your e-mail address so I can contact you if you win if it's not connected to your blog account.
I’m not going to make you follow me for extra entries. I’d prefer you follow my blog if you like reading what I write, not because you want to win something.
I will draw a name tomorrow and get the socks in the mail this week.
Thank you again, SmartKnitKIDS!
**I was given the socks to review but the opinion is my own—and Tommy’s**

The Midge has similar sensory issues, so I think this is a great idea. And, I see they even have the socks in pink and purple, so I would buy a bunch in just those two colors, I then wouldn't have to fight with her each morning over the lack of pink or purple socks...
Tweeted to some friends with kids on the spectrum. I wish the adult sizes came in better colors. Sigh. I guess I'd have to choose black or navy in the knee-high category since I can't find lime green.
I also like the pink. My 6 year old doesn't have any sort of sensory disorder, but she still takes ten minutes to put on a pair of socks because the seems bug her. I feel naive for not realizing there was such a product out there. Thanks for the info!
Sean, my 8 year old with autism and sensory issues, would LOVE these socks. He is very particular about his footwear and I hear about it all the freakin' time!! He'd be wearing the same ones as your son, good ol' basic white ones. Especially since he hates colored socks... well, unless they have Lightning McQueen on them.
And I've been following you cause I totally love you... and I'm not at all sucking up in any way! ;)
Hi,
I just stumbled onto your blog today and thought I would say hi! My kids have sensory issues too, and we love these socks!
Thanks for sharing,

That's a great idea! I'd love purple ankle socks... but really, purple anything. I <3 Purple!
While white is more practical, my kiddos would probably love the blue!
I knew reading your blog was good for more than just hysterical laughter.
My daughter doesn't have the same issues as Tommy but getting her dressed every morning is HELL as she discards every single pair of socks I hand her. I finally started turning them inside out and that helped some.
Now I'll be buying a bunch of pairs of these in pink and purple and they have knee highs too!! She loves to wear knee-socks with her little dresses and skirts.
I also have a friend whose daughter is the same, she was using my inside-out idea but she'll love these too.
I have peripheral neuropathy and have major issues with socks because my feet are so incredibly sensitive.
Since I'm not working (bedridden for 5 months), I can't afford any of these right now, but would love to try them someday. It would probably help minimize the pain I feel--rough socks and seams make my feet go into major spasms. I couldn't find any colors for adults besides black and white, but I'd love any color. My favorite color is blue, but mostly wear black and white socks since that's what most brands sell for cheap!
by the way, my e-mail is sarahmae@gmail.com in case I happen to win! :)
My youngest (diagnosed at 3) has grown out of alot of his clothing sensory issues, but I can relate. It was so hard when he was younger to find anything he would wear. He still has alot of noise related issues and food texture issues, which is really tough, since we're gluten free as well. Glad to see Tommy's enjoying the socks! -J
Very cool! Blue! Whatever blue. :) What a great review and giveaway! You know you could knit your own pair. ;)
That is great to know - I can recommend it to parents at school who have children with sensory processing disorder!
These sound awesome! My son throws a FIT when his socks 'don't feel right'. I think we will be ordering some! Definitely white for him, but thinking of some purple for my daughter too!
awesome socks! I would love to get the pink ones!

I have a kid who is all about the socks! I bet he would have loved to have been part of a post like this! Maybe I should write about socks, just because it would make it happy to be modelling them!
I'd get the black ones so my son could have some dress socks. :)
And this gave me an idea..I know how to knit seamless socks from the toe up, but I never really thought much about it...I didn't realize they'd be so useful!
Oh, and on the subject of give-aways, I've got a couple $25 Sears gift cards I'm giving away this week, too! Love to have you enter! http://the-high-chair.blogspot.com/2010/08/sears-gift-card-giveaway.html
I recently just discovered these because my son wears AFO braces on his feet and seams in socks can cause sores. We'd love a blue pair! Thanks for the opportunity for a great giveaway!

One sock at a time, indeed!
I just want to say that I think it's awesome that people are finally taking notice of children who have problems like this. . . I perused the site, but if I should happen to win the giveaway, sign me up for an extra pair of socks for Tommy in whatever color he'd like (cuz' I don't really need them in this house)
P.S. I already follow, but you prolly knew that already ;)
I'd probably get the purple or pink. My kids don't like socks either.
email addy is: mommy2michaela123@yahoo.com
So, my son's the one who has always been plagued by loud noises (he'd be the one preschooler who refused to climb on the firetruck for fear they'd use the siren. Fortunately, it's finally getting more tolerable at age 7), but my daughter is bugged by ill-fitting socks. For that reason, I'd have to say pink would be my choice. :)
black or pink I would choose. we have some purple ones Ben uses for his AFOs and they are great! I have a sensory kid too. at a parade once they honked the horns on these old trucks and scared the kid so bad he wet his pants! when he was small he would put baby socks on his hands because he liked the pressure. now he is a crasher. jumping hopping stomping banging into things. its how he gets deep pressure. have you tried willabarger brushing?
My best friend's son has this exact same thing with socks. I can't believe you found these! I would gethim the same ones you got for Tommy - Caden likes the higher socks and nothing that's itchy or scratchy or bunched up! (And by the way, I would read your blog if I had to pay to read it. You're one of the best writers on the web and you keep me laughing every day! Giveaways or not!)
My niece told her mom several years ago that she could just stop buying her socks because she wasn't going to wear them any more. Maybe these would get her to at least wear a pair with her snow boots at kindergarten this winter. Pink pink pink that is the only color she ever wants to wear so I'd have to get her the pink ankle socks.
These are awesome and such a great idea for my wee Aspergers Girlie!
They sound great, and if they have the Tommy seal of approval, that's good enough for me.
As always, reading your blog is a true delight!
I'd like to enter the giveaway. If I were to buy a pair of these socks, I would try the big kids in white.
Thank you for this opportunity!
My middle son has SPD. I decided to let him go sockless today because he was starting to cry about his socks bothering him this morning. And I didn't want him crying when I dropped him off at preschool. So, he just has stinky feet.
I like the white ankle socks.
My kids are the same way about socks. The seams are in the way or they are too tight, even though he wore a pair the same size yesterday.
I would like the ankle pink socks, my boys will only wear white socks. Which actually makes it easier to sort and pair.
