So I bought this since the package said it was compostable:
Does the sound of the bag bother anyone else? It’s seriously like nails on a chalkboard for me.
I’m tempted to pour the chips in a plastic bag which sort of defeats the purpose of buying them in the first place.
I find I slowly stick my hand in the bag, careful not to touch the sides and then I s.l.o.w.l.y pull my hand back out lest I bump against it and cause it to *shudder* CRINKLE.

That bag is pretty much the worst thing ever. I'm sorry, Sun Chips, but I will not buy you because of the bag!
Oh I LOVE that bag. I know it is obnoxiously loud but that is the sound of decomposing in action. We have buried three of them in our compost and my daughter thinks it is so fun to dig them up and see what they look like. You could do this with just a hole in the ground too. They really do decompose SO quickly.
But keep in mind that in order to break down they need air, water and insects which if you put it in your regular trash and it goes to a landfill it will not get so it won't really break down. In order for it to compost and be good for the planet you need to either compost it yourself or send it to an industrial compost facility.
Great idea but Sun Chips has a long way to go before it really makes sense; I just don't think that many people are burying them in their backyard or putting them in an at home compost pile!!
I've heard a lot of people say that! I think there was even something in the Wall Street Journal about it awhile back!
That bag is insanely annoying. I absolutely hate it!

The bag is HORRIBLE! My nephew is 6 months old and he screams whenever we touch it. I like that is 'green' but the sound is pretty bad!
I agree! I love Sunchips so will continue to purchase, but god forbid a late night snack, the entire house will wake up. It's way to loud, they need to figure something else out that's for sure.
What about pour the chips in a bowl? ;)

I too, am tempted to go out and buy this bag just to see what all the fuss is about haha! I LOVE sunchips -- so the fact that no one wants to buy the chips BECAUSE of the bag is funny and sad at the same time

I tried eating these at work on Saturday...boy that bag was loud. It attracted all the other people in the office and I was FORCED to share....

Oh my gosh it is SO loud and obnoxious. But for Sun Chips, I'll do just about anything.
I love Sun Chips but HATE the new bag. It is definitely too loud. Its great that its better for the environment, but what about my eardrums?

I too cannot stand how noisy the bag is. It gets really irritating after a while.
Now I have to go buy one to just to see (and to bury it out back).
It's VERY loud...but I only get the small bags, or if I get the big ones the hubby eats an entire bag in one sitting, so the sound never has a chance to annoy me :o)

Ok, yes I totally agree!! I do have to say it sure keeps my husband and I from grabbing them for a midnight snack!!! It would wake up the entire neighborhood!

Annoying - yes. Awesome move on their part - yes. The bag IS super loud but I love that they are still doing it even though people complain about the noise.
I truly hope others follow suite soon and maybe work on making it quieter...but still - better for the earth and our childrens future = my purchase.
Sales for Sun Chips have drastically gone down because of those bags. I can't stand them!

Low Carb diet has outlawed any, and all, chips so I wouldn't know. But it sounds like SunChips needs to rethink that one!
I think it is so funny how much people hate that bag! I hear it all the time. Maybe it's just clever marketing on their part because it has people chatting up their chips!

I do love me some Sun Chips. I think the bag is designed to be a diet tool. I cringe everytime I open the friggin bag so they just sit in the pantry mocking me...
This post is exactly what I expect my stepdaughter would write after eating those chips. Noises like that - including fork against the plate scraping - drive her BATTY.
Oh. My. God. I hate that bag! I am happy that it composts but, I think I may have to ban Sun chips from my house. I'm not a fan of the new water bottles either. I'm cheap, so I refill our water bottles, like, 75 times, the new thiner plastic ones break after 2 uses. Whole bottom falls right out. -J

I haven't bought the bag yet, but damn do I love a Harvest Cheddar Sun Chip.
Perhaps, you could just buy a bag of the compostable chips, immediately toss it on the pile and then buy a bag of chips without the evil bag.

Yeah, I can't take those bags, AT ALL! Good Lordy my ear drums bleed everytime I'm anywhere near one of them. Which is really quite tragic when you consider how delicious thos Sun Chips are. Oh well, i guess said bag is doing my hefty hips a favor...as I won't buy them in THAT bag.
so I'm neurotic about noise. and I would put the chips in a bowl so that I only had one big rush of crinkling before composting that noisy bothersome bag!
Well there is one way to eat less chips. Actually, communities that compost say this bag actually wrecks their system. Go figure.

I've never heard that particular bag, but the sound of that crinkling can do me in when I'm in a certain mood. Strange that the mood occurs when I'm most likely to want chips!

I love Sun Chips! But I haven't bought a bag in quite some time, so I'm not sure of this crinkle you are talking about. Sounds like I don't want to find out though!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I'm all for things being compostable, but the noise drives me. Can't there be a silent compostable bag?
