The Smiling Picture

Look, I admit it.

I yell.

I yell at my children when they’ve worn my last nerve.

I don’t like to do it but I find my patience is thin ever since Tom has left.

I worry sometimes that my kids will think back to their childhood and be all, “Growing up, my Mom was usually red in the face and ranting about how no one ever listens to her.”

Well.

The other day Natalie told me she drew a picture of me.

Wow.

I was smiling in the picture.

So maybe....

Maybe I’m not as cranky as I think I am.

Or maybe Natalie was just being polite.

We're always our own worst critic -- how others view us isn't always as bad as we think it is, you know? Keep your head up, girlfriend!

When my daughter was about Natalie's age, she found my yelling very funny. It's the main thing that got me to stop, well mostly stop! LOL

I think we all yell...I know MY mom did, but I don't remember her being that way :) That's a good thing, right??

I think when we think of ourselves we remember the worst - luckily our children remember the best (I hope!)

I hate doing it, but I yell too! Then I feel bad for it, but NO ONE listens! ROFL!!!
I love the portrait your daughter drew. it rocks.

I yell, too, about the things my kids do wrong. It doesn't do much, considering they all left home a few years ago and aren't here to listen now. I guess I should stop sometime.

My youngest will not listen unless I yell at him. Then I find myself yelling at him asking, "Why do I have to yell to make you listen?!" Ugh.

Aw, that's so sweet. I'm sure you aren't as cranky as you think you are and they will remember you smiling more often than yelling! :)

Natalie being polite to her mother? I can't bring that into focus. I do, however love the picture. Can I have it for my fridge?

Save THAT picture for posterity, Mommy!

I wonder the exact same thing and always find myself hoping that my kids didn't inherit their memories from their father, who happens to remember the smell inside his mother's uterus and everything since then.

Looks like you don't have much to worry about. :)

Ahhhh, deep sigh. So glad to know I'm not the only one. 'Cause holy crap, I feel like all I ever do is yell at my kids. BOO!

That picture is more proof than anything that the smiles surpass the times you yell. I like to think that if I do ever yell at my kiddo(he's 2) he will realize that hewas doing something he shouldn't and therefore not remember me as the cranky mom.

Your girly loves you =]

I used to yell at my boys all the time. Secretly I knew they weren't really listening, but it made me feel better!

No worries darlin - all moms yell -sometimes our beautiful babies just get on that last nerve and we lose it - but it's OKAY - they won't remember the "bad" times - just the good ones - at least that's how it was for me. Though, I think I yell a lot more than my parents ever did at me! HA! xoxoxo

Absolutely adorable! According to my grown up kids, they remember the fun times more so just do something memorable and goofy with them. =)

From the stories you tell me, I'm thinking it wasn't her being polite. Not that she's RUDE! No, no, no... Just, you know. She's a preschooler. They're tactless.

Looks just like you.

I don't feel like your daughter minces words, or crayons for that matter.

I'm glad she thinks of you as the happy, yellow-haired woman that you are.
