Things That Annoy Me Thursday: Fancy Valentines

Please tell me other people are sending their kids with store bought Valentines.

My Facebook feed is FILLED with all these handmade ones. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's just, well, one lady cut out these really pretty butterflies and wrote in CALLIGRAPHY around the wings and attached candy all around it. And mind you, even though this post is Things That Annoy Me, it really doesn't annoy me when people make fancy things. I marvel at the stuff people create.

But anyway, cut out butterflies seem like a lot of work.

Imagine doing that 20+ times.

Someone else cut out hearts and taped candy all around them.

Another cut out tiny flowers with the writing, "I pick you!"

And here my kids come with store bought Valentines.

I'm not crafty. I've said this before. It doesn't bring me joy. Just as cooking doesn't bring me joy. Eating brings me joy. Reading brings me joy. Writing brings me joy. Cutting 20+ shapes does not.

I just hope other kids have store bought Valentines too.

And I sort of hope my kids bring home the fancy Valentines so I can marvel at them, contemplate doing it next year for about five seconds before running to the store and buying store bought Valentines for 50% off for next year...

That's just how I roll, people.

Store bought all the way! I said the same thing on my blog. "Mom guilt" is a mother. :)

My 2 year old brought home a handmade Valentine - a doily heart with the name written all pretty. All I said to my husband was "this person has too much time on their hands!". Store bought for both my kids and you know what? They LOVED them and wanted one for themselves!

I made all 5 of Chloe's, but she ended up being sick today anyway. It was pretty quick and easy though. I used a heart punch to quickly cut out a bunch of hearts. Mine were no where near fancy though.

Get one of those Cricut computer driven paper cutters, it comes with programs that you use to size and select shapes, then cuts them out. You still have to do the gluing together part.

Sorry to annoy you, but I'm one of those crafty Moms!! I enjoy it and Bella loves it, so that's how we roll.

In Bella's class of 19, she got TEN fruit by the foot's. It had a little space on it to write "to/from". That's a little pathetic!!!! Not even a card!!

Does she care? Nope! :D

We made bracelets. I was ready to shoot myself by the end, though. My oldest did her fine all by herself, and I knew I would be doing most of the work with my youngest. But the middle kid got hurt in the middle of the week and I had to take him to urgent care to make sure he didn't have a broken nose/concussion and that threw off my plans in a big way!

Haha. Never give saving time for yourself a second thought. Go buy your 50% off VDay cards and then snuggle up with a book :)

Yep, store bought. Putting a heart sticker that came with the set to seal the valentine is as creative as I get with these.

Now maybe when my youngest starts K and my older boys are kinda part it...I might be a bit more creative.

Lena went in with store bought Valentine's today. The only fancy thing about them was that I bought one set for the boys and one set for the girls.

Store bought here too. Although I did splurge a bit and bought a separate bag of candy (Starburst/Laffy Taffy) to tape to them.
My 4 year old son just came home from preschool with a bag of Valentines, and only 3 of 20 were homemade/crafty. So I don't feel so bad :) I think people with something to show off on FB or Pinterest do so, and it doesn't mean that the majority of people are doing it :)

Seriously, when did EVERY SINGLE thing get to be such an event? My Facebook feed has had all the fancy valentines too. Not just the time involved, it has to be EXPENSIVE and I'm way to cheap for all that. I saw one where a parent was giving milk and cookies with the valentine - with 20-25 kids to give valentines too, that has to add up fast.

Last year was our last one for class valentines but I always did the store bought thing too. I taped a lollipop to them and called it a day. Meh.

Ugh, *too cheap. I swear I know how to use that word right.

I couldn't believe all those fancy Valentine's I was seeing! Ain't nobody got time for that.

I bust out the crafty valentines, but that's how I roll. Rest assured though... LOTS of kids still do the store bought ones. :)

I totally cheat though, I do them all on the computer, because there is NO WAY I'm going to sit through having them whine about writing them all out.

All I could think reading my facebook feed this morning is how I am going to be a terrible mom. Who was time to put goldfish in a baggy and write "I'm glad we're in the same 'school'"? I mean, I guess I have the time to do these things. But I'd rather spend that time watching Vampire Diaries and drinking wine.

I teach in an arts-based preschool and we still had more store-bought than handmade valentines come to school--which is OKAY! If the parent is making the handmade valentine FOR the child, then what's the point? Involve the child in the process! If the child is coveting the store bought valentine, SO WHAT! My students were excited about what they brought, store-bought or handmade if they had had a choice in what they brought.

Haha this post made me chuckle :D There are so many really crafty Valentine's out there.. but I am not the most crafty person. I don't mind doing one or two, but that's my limit!

Oh, thank heavens I am not the only mom who sent her kid with store bought valentines. I am posting a photo today of the box my son created. It was totally all his doing. Nothing fancy like everyone else.

I am right there with you. We go to Walmart pick out the ones my daughter wants and we are done. I think it is cool that some parents can spend that much time doing that...but I am not one of them.
